Research Associate I-IV - Clinical Medicine and Surgical Services
Individual in this position is primarily responsible for animal handling, assisting with anesthesia/surgery, and may also assist in physicals and treatment of animals. A high school diploma or equivalent required. Certified Veterinary Technician and/or Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or relevant experience is preferred. This individual must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. This individual must also have the willingness to work with all "in-house" species.

Research Associate I-IV - Experimental Therapeutics
Technician in this position will be required to learn and perform functions with all types of species of animal within our facility. Individual will need to be ready to learn many new functions such as kindling, pain testing, RNA homogenizing, tumor modeling, punch biopsies, and tail infusions. Individuals will perform basic necropsy functions, assist in surgery, and prepare test material. Technician will be required to write SDN's set up, archive study books and answer QAO's independently. This individual will work closely with study directors to coordinate and complete study functions. The technician must be able to work under pressure and effectively solve problematic situations. A high school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or related field is preferred. This individual must also have the ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Research Associate I-IV - Acute Toxicology
This position will be responsible for handling animals and restraining small and large animals, participating in experimental procedures/techniques (which includes dosing, sample collection), reviewing data, preparing and collecting data, training, and record keeping. Individuals in this position will also be responsible for procurement and receipt of animals, and preparation of forms and study books. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or related field is preferred. This individual must also have the ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Research Associate I-IV - Necropsy & Teratology
This position is responsible for performing necropsy and/or teratology functions, which includes performing dissections, weighing and measuring internal organs, and following other protocols on species varying from mice to non-human primates. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. The preferred candidate must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or relevant major and/or be ALAT certified.

Research Associate I-IV - Safety Pharmacology, ADME, & Pharmacokinetics
This position is responsible for administering test materials via various routes (oral, dermal, IV, SC, IP, IM), measuring body weights and food consumption, collecting blood samples, and performing detailed observations with a variety of animal species varying from mice to non-human primates. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. The preferred candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or relevant major and/or be ALAT certified.

Research Associate I-IV - Infusion Toxicology
Research Associates in the infusion department will be working with primates, canine, rabbits and rodents and will perform routine functions such as body weight, food consumption and detailed observations in each of the above species. Individuals must possess the ability to assess animals for signs and symptoms of inflammation/infection. In this position, individuals must have an understanding of sterile fields and appropriate handling of sterile equipment and be able to perform routine/non-routine maintenance of infusion equipment. Essential to this position is the ability to maintain calibration records and rapidly identify potential and existing problems with infusion system and take corrective action. This role will assist in development of new systems and/or equipment as required, assist in the development of SOP for equipment, and conduct infusion studies. All studies performed by Research Associates in this position will be conducted per protocol, SOP, and GLP requirements. Individuals in this position may potentially be subject to contact outside of normal working hours during study operations. This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Animal Caretaker Research II, Level XVIII - ULAR, MSU

Required: high school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience; expert knowledge of repair methods, equipment and tools; expert knowledge of animals and their care; two years satisfactory experience as an Animal Caretaker Research I or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience; second level AALAS certification; participation in job related in-service education; willingness to work a flexible shift; possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator's license; frequent lifting of 26 - 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.

Desired: knowledge of common laboratory animals, their diseases, and treatment techniques.

Basic Function: oversee and assist in the care of experimental and clinical animals by performing such duties as feeding, watering, cleaning, handling, and transporting animals; maintain accurate records including information regarding procurement, breeding, illness, special handling instructions, and daily census; operate and maintain equipment necessary to accomplish assigned duties such as cage washers, autoclaves, trucks, etc.; oversee and assist in the preparation of animals for experimental procedures and assist in routine surgery; oversee and assist with animal breeding colonies and treatment techniques; observe animals for signs of disease and illness and report symptoms to appropriate supervisor. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Duties associated with this position involve handling animals, working with monkeys, and potential exposure to rabies.
