MSU HR/Employment Animal Caretaker Research II, Level XVIII - ULAR, MSU Required: high school graduation or an equivalent combination of education and experience; expert knowledge of repair methods, equipment and tools; expert knowledge of animals and their care; two years satisfactory experience as an Animal Caretaker Research I or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience; second level AALAS certification; participation in job related in-service education; willingness to work a flexible shift; possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator's license; frequent lifting of 26 - 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds. Desired: knowledge of common laboratory animals, their diseases, and treatment techniques. Basic Function: oversee and assist in the care of experimental and clinical animals by performing such duties as feeding, watering, cleaning, handling, and transporting animals; maintain accurate records including information regarding procurement, breeding, illness, special handling instructions, and daily census; operate and maintain equipment necessary to accomplish assigned duties such as cage washers, autoclaves, trucks, etc.; oversee and assist in the preparation of animals for experimental procedures and assist in routine surgery; oversee and assist with animal breeding colonies and treatment techniques; observe animals for signs of disease and illness and report symptoms to appropriate supervisor.
